Azaïdé is a French-Algerian-Spanish artist based between Dubai, Algiers and Paris. She prints old black-and-white photographs onto canvas, then spends weeks hand-stitching beads, threads and pop-culture motifs into the women who appear there — giving them new dresses, new posture, new power.

Touareg.
— entre terre, vent et mémoire
Broderies d'héritage, âmes nomades, élégance éternelle. The next chapter travels south — into the ochre and indigo of the Algerian desert, where Touareg silhouettes are re-stitched in beads and silk.

— the artist
From a grandmother's journey to Iran — the word Azadeh.
Azaïdé draws her deepest inspiration from her grandmother — a woman who advocated for women's rights in North Africa, and who brought back from her travels to Iran in the 1980s the Persian word Azadeh, free-minded. That name became the artist's, and the compass of her work: emancipation and liberation, one stitch at a time.
She begins each piece with an old black-and-white photograph, imagines a new story for the woman inside it, and slowly re-dresses her in modern pop-culture motifs woven into traditional Arab attire — a celebration of Arab heritage in dialogue with the world.
